NTSC, like the looks of your smoked trout. I'm not sure where a court challenge would come from (the food lobby seems to be resigned to having national standards, rather than fighting all these battles at the local school level). Congress already gives the USDA authority to establish nutrition requirements for food in school cafeterias. I'm not sure how extending that authority to the a la carte lines, the vending machines, the school stores would violate the constitution.

I totally agree with you on junk food in high schools, however I doubt such legislation has any chance of surviving the inevitable court challange.

But I do hope it works.

Good morning Ed,

I want to be involved! Let me accompany you into what you called the "lion's den" next time. Not that you need any help, but I am a Nutrition Therapist (with an additional degree in Exercise Science and a certification to teach yoga) who raised 4 kids and I pretty much refused to let them eat school lunches. I could go on, but I'll spare you the details, other than the fact that I'm a CSA member and advocate local, organic, small farm, simple and slow food. I'm a hippie girl at heart, this is my lifestyle -- it's not a trend to me.

I'm also a conservative republican. Yikes! We aren't so bad, I promise.

This is the perfect policy issue to bring together bipartisan support (along with a few other issues I'm working on right now). Contrary to what you may think, there's a whole bunch of us right-wing, granola eating, yoga practicing, burkenstock wearing, Wendell Berry followers out here in middle America. At least I'm hoping so. I haven't actually met any yet. :-)

Let me know how I can help. Thank you, thank you, thank you. We need to work together and come at them from both sides (right and left)! Don't you agree?!
