Joanna, the brand of cod liver oil I buy is Carlson Norwegian Cod Liver Oil. I should think that would be available in your area, no?

Melissa, thanks for the question about mercury. The label on my bottle of Carlson Norwegian Cod Liver Oil states that it is "Contminant Free." To wit:

"This product is regularly tested (used AOAC international protocols) for freshness, potency and purity by an independent, FDA-regulated laboratory and has been determined to be fresh, fully-potent and free of detectable levels of mercury, cadmium, lead, PCB's and 28 other contaminants."

Hi Ed,

I too am a huge fan of fat. I'm interested in your comment about cod liver oil. I know all the wonderful health benefits, but I have great concern over the potential mercury levels in it. I've wanted to take it myself and give it to my 3yr old, but I've read that the livers of cod contain some of the highest mercury in the ocean. I suppose everything is tested, but how do you trust the testing?

Great lesson, Ed.

I distinctly remember the cod's liver oil I was given as a child being utterly disgusting ... maybe I should give it another go, but perhaps you'll tell us the brand you're using, it sounds quite unlike the horrible medicine we used to get ;)
