Mark McAfee champions raw milk

David Gumpert, author of The Complete Patient blog, writes that raw milk dairyman Mark McAfee recently received a standing ovation from a crowd of nearly 1,000 small farmers in Wisconsin when he said this: “The most patriotic thing we can do as farmers is rebel. Tell the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) to pasteurize themselves….The farmer will become the pharmacist for America.”

Think there’s not something stirring on America’s dairy farms? Big dairy corporations are making out like bandits while farmers are going broke. Meanwhile, federal and state officials apply Gestapo tactics to prevent farmers and consumers from trafficking in a perfectly natural product: raw milk. Will the government’s lockstep support for Big Agribusiness, at the expense of family farmers, ever end?

David Gumpert does an extraordinary job of covering the raw milk issue in all its seamy detail. Mark McAfee, owner of Organic Pastures dairy in Kermin, California, is leading the charge for natural farm practices. I just wish there was a link to McAfee’s entire keynote address to the Acres USA conference in St. Paul, Minnesota. I’d be happy to link to it here if anyone knows of a recording.
