Chives in Bloom

Is there anything prettier?

Is there anything prettier?

The joys of gardening are so simple: fresh compost, a ripe tomato, freshly picked salad, a happy earthworm, a flower in bloom. Every season brings something different to the garden tableau, something to lift our hearts and let us know what time of year we are in. Right now we know exactly what time it is: time for chives to bloom. The chives are positively exhuberant: they stand ram-rod straight, each sporting a pom-pom of lavender colored flowers.

They seem so happy to see us as we walk out the front gate. And they do this year after year, without any interference from us.

Do you sprinkle chive flowers on your salad Ed?

I do, well – I will when our chives flower – not yet.

Do you grow garlic chives? Very pretty white flowers, they’d look great alongside the chives.
