Entrance to Stoddert school garden

They were putting the finishing touches on the new garden at Stoddert Elementary School garden Friday, primarily this “stick art” sculpture at the entrance. Not every school garden gets this kind of treatment for sure. A lot of planning and care went into this garden.

View of new garden beds

Here you can see some of the new garden beds, as seen from the center of the garden, designated as the butterfly garden. The raised beds were assembled from kits.

Detail of plastic bottle construction

The kids helped build the small utility building at the rear, using plastic bottles to form the walls. Here’s a close-up, showing how the bottles have been mounted onto garden stakes, which are stapled to the wooden frames.

Now all they have to do is start planting. Good work, everyone.

I love the way that the plastic bottles have been used to make the walls of the building. The garden is a blank canvas for the children to bring to life and give color to. The planning and care that was put into this project is clear to see.

    Congratulations to all involved.
