Brrrrrrrrrrr.
The news this week: winter seems to have arrived early. This is what the thermometer outside my office window looked like at 7:30 a.m. the other day and it’s even colder this morning. A wind advisory has been issued for today, with gusts expected up to 50 mph, plunging the wind chill into the minus degrees territory.
Our first job this morning, as soon as it’s light enough, is to bring the animals in off the upper pasture. They’ve been happily grazing there lo these many weeks, but when it’s this cold–and it’s supposed to stay cold all week–I cannot provide them with water that isn’t frozen. Plus, the weather man is calling for alternating snow and rain into Thanksgiving.
The whole family will have to get out of bed, rub the sleep out of their eyes and trek out into a frigid gale for the round up. Then we’ll have to figure out how to get hay out of that big stack we have so tightly wrapped in tarps next to the house.
Oh, yes. We’re being tested–tested to see if we’re winter ready. And the really big chill doesn’t arrive until tonight.
