Gimme Shelter

After ordering some specialty metal trim pieces, our friend Luke this week finished work on our new goat shelter and quite the little jewel box it is. Finally, the goats will have plenty of room to bed down out of the winter weather without fighting over space in the tool shed. And they can do it in style.
I spent part of the week moving electric fencing to create a large area for the goats to spend the winter months, the new shelter at one end. I also collected a bunch of spoiled hay from the shelter in the main paddock to create a cozy mattress for them.
I had not quite finished closing in the area around the new shelter with electric netting when a funny thing happened. Seems on my last trip out of the main paddock in the pickup with a load of hay I neglected to close the paddock gate behind me. When the goats returned to the paddock from grazing the adjacent pasture, they noticed a door open and followed their noses out of the paddock and up the driveway toward the house.
They must have been impressed by Luke’s work on the new shelter because next time we looked out the window, the goats had entered their winter quarters and were happily grazing there.
We’re happy to have such appreciative and well trained goats.
