Hakurei, a turnip to munch on

Hakurei, a turnip to munch on

What would happen if you crossed a radish with mozzarella cheese?

You might end up with something like this Hakurei turnip. The cheese part is only a bit of a stretch. Otherwise, I struggle to describe the soft, smooth texture of this turnip. As white as drifting snow, the Hakurei borders on sweet, with only the faintest hint of the bite its brassica brethren normally deliver.

To my mind, it is best eaten exactly like this: straight from the garden to your lips, with maybe a pinch of salt. Although I hear it can also be cooked if you are so inclined. The green tops are said to work in a salad, but I haven’t tried it.

If you like to munch on crudites, I suggest you try Hakurei. It only takes 35 days to mature. Heck, you could probably plant some right now.
