Winter markets open for business

The  list of farmers markets open year-round in the Washington area is growing and the Washington Post this week posted a useful list of them here.

Be advised that winter markets are limited in terms of the number of vendors on hand and the fresh produce they offer: lots of root vegetables. but some farmers are producing fresh kale and collards and even salad in some cases. At some markets you can find dairy, cheese, meats and prepared foods including canned goods and preserves, sometimes ready to eat goods such as breads, pies or even empanadas, at the Dupong Circle market.

It pays to make a trip to the nearest market and see what’s being offered. And do remember to bring your own shopping bag.

Hi Ed — thanks for mentioning The Post. Wanted to let you know I included a link to your post on the D.C. school cafeteria in the “Web Buzz” section on The Post’s local homepage (www.washingtonpost.com/local) it’s just below the today’s headlines section. It was a good read.

    take care,
