Red cabbage welcomes early snowfall

After the hottest summer on record and the warmest November, it only makes sense that we should have an unusually early first snowfall here in the District of Columbia. To think, we were harvesting green tomatoes just a few weeks ago.

We haven’t had much luck growing cabbage, but this single red cabbage seems to be taking the weather in stride. It makes a nice contrast with our dusting of snow this morning.

Swiss chard is not happy about the cold

Our lovely Swiss chard plants, meanwhile, have gone into a funk after a blast of frigid, Arctic temperatures. We are still harvesting kale, collards and salad. Perhaps the chard will recover, except temperatures are predicted to dip well below freezing the next couple of days.

Nice post. Interested in knowing whether your crop has made it through the cold spurt. We just had 20 inches of snow pour down here in Minnesota. So the garden is definitely done for the season.
