More Chicks!

We have 23 Freedom Ranger broilers getting fat on pasture. They’re scheduled for slaughter September 25. Meanwhile, on Friday the post office called to let us know that another 25 chicks had arrived. They’re now in the basement brooder. Looks like we’ll be dressing more chickens right around Thanksgiving.
These little guys look just like Easter chicks–classic Peeps. As far as daughter is concerned, they’re just too cute to resist. She treats them like pets.
That’s not such a bad thing. The chicks get to spend some time out of the brooder, and with all the handling they lose some of their fear of us. Just don’t tell them they have only 11 weeks to live.
