It’s Back!

I know how we’re going to die. It’ll be from stress trying to cope with the U.S. Health care system.

Back in March, the clinic where my wife had her colonoscopy sent us a bill for $2,079.68 as our share of an alleged $14,555.61 in charges for a routine procedure.

Our insurance company assured us we should pay nothing for a colonoscopy once every 10 years. Under the affordable care act, preventive care is supposed to be free. And after innumerable phone calls, the clinic finally acknowledged that the biggest item driving the bill was a recovery room charge that had been levied in error. We were assured the error would be corrected.

But today’s mail brought an “explanation of benefits” from the insurance company indicating we would still owe $562.34. An hour on the phone with a benefits manager revealed that an errant recovery room charge remains on the colonoscopy clinic’s claim. We are back to fighting the charge with the clinic–almost nine months later.

So far under Obamacare, our experience has been that virtually all of our medical bills have something wrong with them. Who has time for a day job when so much time is spent fighting the medical establishment?

We wonder how many people would have just paid the bill and never realized they were being ripped off.

I’m sorry for your insurance trials (and I love your blog), but hardly a reason to blame Obamacare. These sorts of paperwork “mistakes” have been going on for years.

Not blaming Obama are. We love the Affordable Care Act.
